Fundraising blitz success

Thanks to enthusiastic participants and generous donors, the Art Museum of Kangaroo Island Easter Sunday quiz and auction (Do you know your arts from your elbow?) was a roaring success.

The auction was a better-than-expected success with almost $6000 raised from seven items (one of which was a $60 pumpkin).

The AMKI summer fundraising blitz has raised enough for the organisation to proceed with contracting a project coordinator, starting at one day a week. That will be an enormous help to the progress of the AMKI project.

The number of KI businesses that willingly donated to the event, and the previous lottery, indicates that they understand the benefits that AMKI will bring to the island.

For the auction, Nick Hannaford put together the Snellings Beach Getaway Package of lunch at The Enchanted Fig Tree, two nights at WanderPod, and a Sealink car and passengers return trip to KI.

Other fabulous auction items were two nights at Cape Hart Retreat, a Janet Ayliffe etching print, a sand dune buggy experience with Little Sahara Adventure Centre, a nocturnal tour for two with KI Hire a Guide, Japanese cups from Lori Smith and of course the pumpkin grown in the Penneshaw community garden.

Many thanks also to: Kangaroo Island Council; The Islander Estate, Dudley and False Cape wineries; KI Brewery; KI Source; Millie Mae’s Pantry; Terry White Chemmart; Penneshaw IGA, Community Business Centre and Beach Bar; Ingrams Home Hardware; and Kangaroo Island Creative Co. They allowed us to put together prize packages for the winning and second-place teams, stock the bar and rent the hall half-price.

It’s worth mentioning again the generous lottery prize donors: Exceptional Kangaroo Island, Thorn Park on the Island, Womadelaide, Antechamber Bay Retreats, and Sunset Food and Wine.
